SAVE THE
SILVER

The Silver Lamprey is a remarkable species that is native to the rivers and lakes of Canada. They are a friend to our waters, working hard as filter feeders and ecosystem engineers. Unfortunately, the silver lamprey population has been declining at an alarming rate in recent years.
Currently, the silver lamprey is considered a species of "Special concern” by the government of Ontario. According to the COSEWIC assessment report, this means that although the species currently lives in the wild, varying biological hazards have the potential to endanger or threaten the species.
This assessment provides little protection to this species.
Why should you care?
Every species has a unique role to play in its ecosystem, which contributes to the biodiversity of earth. Preserving species like the silver lamprey is crucial for maintaining a healthy planet.
OUR MISSION
Our goal is to raise awareness about the importance of this vital species to Ontario's ecosystems.
We are calling on the government of Ontario to take the necessary steps required to ensure protection and conservation of the silver lamprey and its habitat. This includes implementing stricter regulations to prevent habitat loss and pollution, conducting rigorous research on population structure, and investing in effective conservation efforts to restore the lamprey's habitat and population.
